A WORD FROM THE FOUNDER

My name is Tom Johnson. Back in 2003 I began helping impoverished people in Sierra Leone get free medical care and surgical treatments. In 2007, I founded Africa Surgery, to continue the work as a registered non-profit entity. For about six months a year I live in Sierra Leone, working with international and local medical programs and facilities that provide diagnoses and treatment on a wide range of medical issues. When not there, I coordinate activities from Morristown, NJ, with help from some in-country assistants in Freetown and Makeni. Over the years and through the generosity of our donors, we have helped thousands of Sierra Leonians with issues ranging from simple tooth extractions to complex spinal surgeries. Navigate through this website to learn more about who we are and what we do. Thank you for visiting us.

As a Disabled person organization itself, ORMS-SL works closely with the  National Commission for Person with Disability.

The National Commission for Persons with Disability (NCPD) was established in 2012 as provided for in Section (2) of the Persons with Disability Act 2011.

The PWD Act 2011 itself is domesticated form of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and Article 33 provides that state parties should establish an implementing agency of the Convention.

The Act states thus “being an Act to establish the National Commission for Persons with disabilities, to prohibit discrimination against persons with disabilities, achieve equalization of opportunities for persons with disabilities and provide for other related matters”.
